Exhibitions - Arddangosfeydd

RAFT are delighted to present a number of exhibitions of art and photography, at venues throughout Rhondda, as part of the 2019 Festival. Featured among these, courtesy of the British Museum, London is an articulated iron model dragon with gilding, "The Kiyoharu Dragon".

Made in Japan, in the 18th–19th century AD, the exhibit is signed by Myōchin Kiyoharu and, courtesy of the British Museum, will be on public display at Treorchy Library from Saturday June 15th through to Saturday June 29th.

In addition to the Kiyoharu Dragon, other featured exhibitions include Trevor James' "Images of Japan", J A Mortram's incredibly powerful "Small Town Inertia", Susan Williams' "The Horse", Lucy Purrington's "Self Portraits" and the 50th anniversary exhibition of Ystradyfodwg Art Society.

In addition to these resident exhibitions, a Community Photography Day, connecting to the Small Town Inertia exhibition, will be held in Ynyshir on Saturday June 22nd, where aspiring, amateur and professional photographers are invited to come together in Ynyshir to document the village and community. Maps of the village for use by participants have been created by local people, while The Workers Gallery will act as a hub for the day for participants to meet, interact and share their experiences and work.

The Listening Project, a collaboration between BBC Radio and The British Library, centred on capturing the nation in conversation, will also be visiting RAFT Monday July 8th to Wednesday July 10th. Hosted at Treorchy Library, two people who know each other are invited to sit down and record a conversation about something important to them. The unedited conversation then goes to the British Library, where it will be available on their LP sound archive site and a short extract is edited for possible BBC Radio transmission. If you and a friend are interested in recording a conversation, please contact Lynne Rosser to arrange an appointment, by email here
