Avant Cymru: Romeo & Juliet

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare, early in his career, about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime.

Avant are creating a modern day version, using the original text but in a relevant and distinctively Rhondda setting. The play will be performed at the beautiful Pen Rhys Amphitheatre and run daily from July 4th to 6th.

*On days where weather is too wet, Avant will have an alternative venue in place. Your contact details will be required to keep you up to date on this.

It is recommended that you bring with you a blanket, cushion, picnic and emergency umbrella (duly prepared for the beautiful Welsh weather)

Avant Cymru: Full Circle Jr

Full Circle Jr
Saturday July 13th
Treorchy Rugby Club
Supported by Pen Y Cymoedd

Avant have been running performing arts classes since September 2015. Avant practice constructivism, which means the children are given opportunities to perform alongside us in professional work.

In July 2019, Avant will link with the British Breakin League. There has always been much debate in regards to dance being a sport or an art. In truth it is both. The theatre work demonstrates the artistic side of the discipline, while the physical aspect pushes the body to the limit and the technique allows the dance to be included in competitions such as the Youth Olympics. The classes working towards Breakin League competitions mark the discipline as a sport, and respects the physical challenges the activity sets to participants.

Full Circle Jam - Festyporth - October 2018

A 2v2 breakin competition was held at the Pop Factory in Porth in 2018, run by Bboy Tommy Boost.  The jam brought dancers from across the UK, Europe and the World. Prize money of £1000 was won by Smac 19; Bboy Kid Karam and Bboy Onel. The jam first came to Porth as part of FestyPorth, and is just the first of many events Avant aim to present in the area.
